Mount Fuji, or Fuji-san, to give its usual
name in Japan, a name at once intimate, and respectful. Taken at sunset,
with lively Yokohama in the foreground. Mount Fuji is a dormant volcano;
behind the Japanese people's deep attachment to it, and their strong sense
of the beauty of its form, is perhaps the shadow of the feeling that dormant
means precisely that.
"And in these weaker glories spy
Some shadows of Eternity"
