Shinto srine at Nikko, a place old in history, and famous for its shrines, as for its momiji, or maples. An excursion group from the same ryokan, or inn, climbing the steps. The young woman on the right is a miko or shrine-maiden, in her traditional orange hibakama. The miko are present at religious services as assistants to the priests, and perform sacred dances.

"There, where my maiden priests are met together ..."
