Samba festival at Asakusa, Tokyo. Asakusa, in the middle of which is the famous Kannon temple, used to be well known as a theatre and entertainment quarter.

"When you do dance, I wish you
A wave of the sea, that you might do
Nothing but that ..."

Perhaps something from Auden would be more appropriate here than this image from Shakespeare.

"Fantastic grow the evening-gowns:
Agents of the Fisc pursue
Absconding tax-defaulters through
The sewers of provincial towns."

Hardly evening-gowns, of course. Rio de Janeiro-style: this, or the classic Folies Bergeres costume of cache-sexe and feathery head-dress, did not take long to have its effect on Tokyo.
